Universidad de Zaragoza - WP5 Leader

The University of Zaragoza was founded in Spain in 1542 with 5 Faculties: Theology, Canons, Law, Medicine and Arts. Since then, UNIZAR has continuously grown, adding Engineering to its degrees in the early  1970s. The university currently has 17 Faculties and Schools and 56 academic and research departments endowed with modern scientific equipment and an outstanding ICT service. It also has twelve research institutes. It offers excellent opportunities for collaboration with research teams and supports scientific research and exchange cooperation programmes with a large number of universities. UNIZAR, with more than 40,000 students and 2,293 high-quality researchers belonging to 202 research groups, occupies a very good position among National and European Universities.

Beneficiary UNIZAR includes the Centro de Investigación y Tecnología Agroalimentaria de Aragón (CITA) as a linked third party. CITA is linked to UNIZAR through the framework agreement that defines the Agrifood Institute (IA2) in 2014.

UNIZAR will lead WP5: Production Efficiency and Meat Quality. It will also work with INTIA to facilitate the establishment of a national beef network in Spain through its activities in WP3 (Socioeconomic Resilience), WP4 (Animal Health & Welfare), and 6 (Environmental Sustainability) where it will help to identify beef farmers’ priority needs and good practices, test some of the solutions identified in demonstration farms to assess the feasibility and facilitate knowledge exchange between farmers and academic experts in Spain and trans-nationally. It will also use its dissemination channels to ensure effective dissemination of research results to end-users and to communicate about the project at the national and EU level to a range of stakeholders (WP7, Communication and Dissemination). It will be also involved in WP2 (Network formation & Multi-Actor Approach) to ensure an effective multi-actor approach within BovINE.
