INTIA

Institute for Agrifood Technology and Infrastructures - Spain

INTIA

The Institute for Agrifood Technology and Infrastructures of Navarra (INTIA), Spain (staff 200) is a public company attached to the Department of Rural Development and Environment of the Government of Navarra.

INTIA, with over 30 years of experience in the beef sector in Navarra, has specialized advisors on beef and milk, sheep, pig and horse cattle farms. Technical advice to the beef cattle sector consists of the dissemination of production techniques and systems with the aim of improving profitability, quality of life, sustainability, obtaining technical and economic data from farms, and informing on environmental regulations. Most of these actions are carried out on the livestock farms themselves. Specifically, 222 beef cattle farms with about 12,000 head of cattle.

INTIA will lead WP2 with support from ILVO and Teagasc.  Together with UNIZAR, it will also facilitate the establishment of a national beef network in Spain through its activities in WP3-6 where it will help to identify Spanish beef farmers’ priority needs, identify good practices in Spain, test some of the solutions identified in its experimental and demonstration farms to assess the feasibility and facilitate knowledge exchange between farmers and academic experts in Spain and between Spanish and other European farmers trans-nationally.  It will also use its dissemination channels to ensure effective dissemination of research results to end-users and to communicate about the project at the national and EU level to a range of stakeholders including farmers, industry and policymakers (WP7).

Project Staff

Damiana Maiz

The overall coordination of the participation of INTIA in the project and the lead of WP2 will be in charge of Damiana Maiz, a technical engineer in agriculture and coordinator of the R&D projects in the organisation. Damiana has been involved in several EU projects dealing with innovation in the agriculture and livestock sector and has been dealing with agriculture and livestock-related EU affairs almost all her professional career.

Daniel San Julian

INTIA has a strong team of livestock advisors working directly with the farmers that will be represented in the project by Daniel San Julian, a veterinary and beef quality meat certifier (Protected Geographical Indication Beef from Navarra) with a long experience working with the beef actors. He will also be the Network Manager coordinating the BKIS actors in Spain.
